Research Challenge #3
Which Sackett (male or female) had the most GRANDCHILDREN?

For the easy route, I was going to go with Samuel Arthur Sackett's father, David Alexander Sackett (1821-1895) (https://www.sackettfamily.info/g122/p122262.htm), who had Samuel's 24 children as grandchildren plus four through his daughter Lydia Lucetta Sackett (1854-1931) (https://www.sackettfamily.info/g122/p122272.htm) for a total of 28. ;-)
However Richard James Sackett (1942-2020) (https://sackettfamily.info/g115/p115575.htm) also had 28 grandchildren, as well as 7 great-grandchildren (https://www.postbulletin.com/obituaries/richard-dick-sackett-dodge-center). Not to be outdone, Leland Stanley Sackett (1027-2020)(https://sackettfamily.info/g138/p138994.htm) had 29 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren (https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/columbustelegram/name/leland-sackett-obituary?id=15531514). Milford John Sackett (1915 - 1984) (https://sackett.groups.io/g/main/topic/96194601) is listed as having 29 grandchildren, GGC not noted. Leonard Noel Sackett (1915-1998) (https://sackettfamily.info/search.htm) was survived by 29 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, but was predeceased by 3 and 2, bringing his totals to 32 and 38 (https://www.newspapers.com/clip/39472192/obituary-for-leonard-sackett-aged-83/). But none of these surpasses what is shown on the SFA "Snippets" page: (Side note: Can one imagine outliving 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren??) (There is also a Bertia Smith (1861-1957) listed in the database (https://sackett-tree.org/getperson.php?personID=I21482&tree=1) as having 54 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, however I do not see her or her husband's ancestry tied up to a Sackett line.) Can anyone exceed these numbers? Research notes: Google search: "sackett" "53 grandchildren" The quotation marks are necessary in both cases, but you may still come up with pages that include "Sackett" but that is not the person with the grandchildren. If you want to go number by number until you run out of time, you can find more results! Or start at 200 and work you way down . . . . After a few searches I started at 60 and worked down to 53 when I found the "Snippets" page. |

I've never had the time to do an exhaustive check, but I actually believe that Anna Sackett Finney's totals are an undercount. She had been living with her son Anson, apparently a prolific letter writer, in her latter years. I've seen a letter from Anson to one of his nephews where he bemoans not having heard from several relatives in many years. I would think that those counts are the descendents Anson knew about. What I would give to see his original records! On Wed, Jan 11, 2023 at 2:48 PM Jon Eisenberg #770 <joneisenberg@...> wrote:
