Too good not to share: James Sacket (1837-1922) #ThomasElder #SimonColonist

Ted Smith #55

While going through the database today, adding some more Sacket descendants, I happen upon the record for James Sacket (1837-1922), son of James Sacket and Sally Jennette Parker. Thurmon King had entered some research from Glenna Hertzler::

"It is interesting that both this James and his father were blind in their later years. James Sr.perhaps about age 70 or so (paper says 4 yrs. ago, 1875?) and James Jr. was blind in 1915 when Viola was born, his age perhaps 75?. He was probably blind when Joe received a postcard from Wallace Sacket in 1909 asking him to read a card to James.

"James was a mail carrier. When he went blind the horse had delivered mail so long, he knew where to go. Some local girls borrowed the horse and went to town. Hours later they returned home, the horse had stopped at every mail box. Dale Z. Aug 2002"
